Letter to Mrs Holley (the reply)- Gemma

The reply came in about half an hour (very efficient) and I am really happy and proud to say that Mrs Holley accepted my proposition to watching a PG movie on the condition that it is advertised to the families!
This is the letter I sent:

Dear Mrs Holley,
As you already know, we are having a movie fundraiser at Waipuna. This is very important
to the school in getting money and as I have heard you only say we are allowed to show a G
rated movie. This should be an enjoyable night for all ages and there are no G rated movies
(in my opinion) that will suit all audiences. I strongly believe that a PG rated movie will be a
lot more successful. Showing a PG movie will; provide a range of popular movies, entice
more people and (if you choose G because it will be more appropriate) there will be parents
there anyway which fills in for Parental Guidance (PG).
There’s an extensive range of PG movies suitable for the whole audience going to the
movie; Mr Popper’s Penguins, Tooth Fairy, The Croods, The Smurfs (all I have seen) that
have no poor language or violence that could harm or affect the audience. This makes it
easy on everyone in selecting the movie to watch. So ideally we don’t want to limit
ourselves to G rated movies because we want to maximise the profit, which brings me to my
next proposition.
Having a popular movie to watch will entice families, therefore making more money which
means more; learning resources, school renovations and making yours and the board of
trustees wish list come true. Think of all the things the students want in our school (ideas
the student leaders brought up that were going to be too expensive). All these things that
can start with a good PG rated movie.
If you’re thinking “I know for sure, watching a G movie won’t bring me complaints on
inappropriate or scary scenes in the movie.” That’s true. But, at Waipuna, you can only show
films that are already out on DVD (because it isn’t a real theatre), so its certain that
someone has watched the movie before and can reassure you that it’s appropriate. PG
stands for Parental Guidance, it will be fine because parents that have to transport children
to Waipuna, they won’t be willing to make 4 trips to leave their child/s in the theatre by
themselves.
I truly believe watching a PG movie will be a lot more successful because it will; give an
extensive range of different movies, entice families to coming and you will be reassured that
the movie chosen will be appropriate. Now I am asking you, please can you change your
statement to PG for the benefit of the school.
Yours sincerely,
Gemma Laverick (Year 7, Room 11).
