You should trial (or play) for a rep team.
Mum said " Even if you don't get it, it's just for experience". But I continued from the trial. Trialing and playing for Counties Manukau Touch and Papakura Netball Reps was a life changing experience that I will never forget. It; makes you feel really good about yourself, introduces you to new people- all different cultures, you learn an extensive range of skills and it can offer you useful values. I strongly believe that you should all trial (and hopefully move on to play) for a rep team.
To start off (if you don't know already), a rep (short for representative) is a group or individual that represents a suburb, region or even a country. They compete against others in sports or academically. Winning a tournament in fantastic because it leads to great opportunities and success.
Do you know the feeling of scoring a try or shooting a goal? Even that moment when your coach yells at you from the sideline to say what a great thing you did back then. You feel really good about yourself. It raises your self Esteem and you will feel bolder. How ever when that low self Esteem moment arrives, still hold your head high, keep calm and carry on.
At the start of my trials I hardly knew anyone but now I have met an ongoing mass of people, not leaving out parents and coaches too. This is awesome because we all bonded and got closer and closer each tournament and practice. It's always good to know that you have a lot of people around you for support and encouragement. Wouldn't you like to be in this warming environment?
Most of all while in a rep team you learn a humongous range of skills. Even rules you didn't know existed in the first place. It improves your play, it can be strict most times but you often come off learning one new thing each practice. Then you can take what you learnt to club teams. So not only you but other people learn from this experience too.
Along the journey off playing in a rep team you start 'grow' values in leadership, cooperation and collaboration. These values will be very useful in school and other activities. This year my coach for reps not only taught us about netball but respect, manners and how to have fun. These life morals will be etched in my mind forever.
Playing a rep team gives you big benefits that start from skills all the way up to College Scholarships. I truly believe if I can play, you can give it a go for yourself to experience. Even if you don't get it you won't regret it.
