Why we can't trust our food - Sam

Speech- Why we can't trust our food!
By Sam Yates!
Im sure that all of you here love food! What if I could tell you that there is something gross and bad for us in our daily diet. What if I told you that bug eggs are in raisins. What if I told you many advertisements for food products were lying. Well i’m sure you wont be eating many foods after i’m done speaking with you.
We all can not trust our food because of what factories put in the food that we eat every day.
Some of the ingredients they allow in our food, in small doses are ok, but what about when it becomes dangerous.
The perfect example of this is what is happening with Fonterra and the Powdered Milk for babies. Fonterra have recalled some baby formulas because of a bacteria that has ended up in the formula that could potentially kill babies.
How is this OK? So I started thinking if it was this easy to allow bacteria into milk formula when factories are so strict on food safety. We could be eating these poisonous or unsafe foods right now and we don't even know it.
Heres a couple of examples but beware....Its kind of gross! Ok.....Who has ever seen vegetarian cheese?
Well vegetarian cheese does not contain calf stomach...But does normal cheese contain calf stomach I hear you say??
The answer is Yes....Im sorry it does. They use a substance called Rennet which is made from slicing up calfs stomach and removing the digestive enzymes by soaking it in whey, wine or vinegar.....EWWW!!
Scientists proved that Blue food coloring can cause kidney tumors in mice. And this terrible final ingredient to so many foods are contained in the following: Baked goods, beverages, desert powders, candies, cereal, drugs, and other products.
Oh and if you’re into eating chemicals such as Titanium Dioxide, how about eating things like salad dressing, creamers, and icing. Yep they put that horrible chemical into those foods just to make them whiter and they also put this in sunscreen and paint. I’ve now decided white is not my colour.
I personally think that these companies should tell the truth about what they put into the ingredients and we should be more pro active in finding out what is in our food.
In jelly beans there is a substance called shellac which makes things shiny, and shiny jelly beans are nice so jelly beans are often coated in shellac. Shellac is found from the female Lac insect.
I’m sorry Ive just fed you bug poo! but its ok, since the companies who make them, say its safe for us to eat...so Should we really trust our food?
