Speech/persuasive - Kaitlyn

Why children should not have televisions in their rooms!

Many children have TVs’ in their bedrooms. 75% of  8-18 year olds have a TV in their room.
Despite what people say I strongly believe that children should not have TV’s in their rooms because TV is bad for your eyes, kids stay up all night watching things they aren’t meant too, TV uses to much electricity and watching TV before bed actually disrupts your sleep cycle.

Do you have a television in your room?  Do you turn it off when you’re Mum or Dad asks you too? When children have TVs in their rooms they will usually stay up all night. Especially when they don’t listen to their Mum or Dad, who’ve told them to turn it off. Watching television before bed disrupts sleep cycles. For example if you watch a scary movie like paranormal activity before bed you are most likely to have a nightmare about it. Removing the television from your bedroom will enable you to have not only more sleep but quality sleep and that means you will be better rested for the next day.

Others must agree that as it gets later in the night programs on the TV start to get inappropriate for our age. Having a TV in your bedroom allows you to watch whatever you want during the night when your parents are sleeping. If I was a parent I surly wouldn’t like my kids watching thing that they aren’t meant to. Also younger children may start to repeat the bad words on the TV that they have heard during the night. We really need to get these horrible black cubes out of our rooms as soon as possible.

Getting rid of those black cubes in your room uses Less electricity/energy use. Household electronics continue to use energy and electricity even when powered off. It’s called standby-power and it amounts to 5-10% of your total electricity bill. One less television means one less financial drain on your check book. So you can save money by taking TVs’ out of your room.

We all know that when your parents ask you to do something and you are watching TV you completely zone out and ignore them, because you are to busy staring at the TV. Watching too much television is bad for your eyes. Most experts agree that steering at the television won’t cause permanent damage to a person's eyes. However, focusing your eyes too long on any thing can cause eyestrain (a temporary problem).

In conclusion I strongly believe that Children, adults people of any age should definitely not a have TV in their room for these reasons; TV is bad for your eyes, kids stay up all night watching things they aren’t meant to, TV uses to much electricity and watching it before bed actually disrupts sleep cycles.  So you should go home and take that horrible black square out of your room it is not doing you any favours!
